IN THIS LESSON
You will:
Master how to present yourself.
As you prepare to enter the ecology workforce, it is critical to learn how to present yourself.
In this module, we will review research by Amy Cuddy on Presence, using examples from her book and related TedTalk. You are encouraged to watch her entire TedTalk!! We will discuss a few sections of her TedTalk here together.
Let’s start at the beginning!
First, what did your body inventory reveal? How were you sitting while watching this video?
Second, Dr. Cuddy is making a pretty big claim here that a small change can significantly change your life. What do you think?
What do you think? How have you reacted in situations where there is a powerful person?
In this next clip, Dr. Cuddy will talk about her research in measuring hormones. She specifically looks a testosterone and cortisol levels.
Testosterone is an aggression hormone.
Cortisol is a stress hormone.
How would you want these hormones balanced when you are trying to be powerful in a stressful situation?
What do you think? Are you willing to try power posing?
I still power pose before I enter into a stressful situation. I even power pose before I teach my class, something I have done a hundred times!
I think power posing does make me feel more confident and stronger and that it can’t hurt to power pose when I need to.
Will you power pose???
Feel free to check out her book for more examples.
